Climate-Smart Agriculture & Food Systems (CSAFS)

The Challenge

Uganda’s rural economy depends heavily on agriculture, yet smallholders face declining productivity due to land degradation, erratic rainfall, and limited access to extension services and markets. Climate change is intensifying these challenges threatening food security, nutrition, and household incomes.

Our Approach

REST-Africa promotes climate-smart agriculture (CSA) that enhances productivity, builds resilience, and reduces emissions. We integrate traditional knowledge with modern practices soil conservation, agroforestry, and integrated pest management to ensure food systems remain sustainable and adaptive.

Key Interventions

  1. Training smallholder farmers in water-smart and soil-health techniques.
  2. Establishing demonstration farms and model farmer networks in target districts.
  3. Promoting post-harvest management and nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
  4. Strengthening farmer cooperatives and linking them to inclusive Agri-markets.
  5. Supporting access to green inputs and digital Agri-advisory services.

Partner with Us to scale CSA innovations, sponsor a farmer field school, or invest in green Agri-enterprises.

Impact

By 2028, REST-Africa will reach 20,000 farmers across Uganda, with at least 60% adopting climate-smart practices and realizing yield increases of 25%. Our work supports national commitments under the NDCs and SDG 2 – Zero Hunger.
